Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The manuscript must be original and not have been previously published or under review in another journal.
  • The submission file must be in Microsoft Word, (as long as it does not exceed 2 MB), and the identification of the author of the manuscript must be removed from the file and from the Word properties option, thus ensuring the confidentiality criteria of the journal, if it is submitted for peer review. The initial submission must include the files "Cover Page (authors, filliation, ORCID and e-mail author correspondence)" and "Manuscript." All author details must be entered during the submission process using the "Add Author" button.
  • References must follow the ABNT NBR 10520:2023 format. The DOI of the references must be provided when available.
  • Articles must be submitted exclusively in English.
  • All studies involving humans (directly or indirectly) or animals must provide the research ethics committee approval protocol number.
  • Manuscripts that pass the initial screening for relevance to the journal's focus and scope, as well as formatting compliance, will undergo an originality and similarity check using an anti-plagiarism system.
  • In the "COMMENTS TO THE EDITOR" field, authors must indicate three potential Ph.D. reviewers for the manuscript, including their NAME, INSTITUTION, and EMAIL.

Manuscript Preparation

The journal Ensaios e Ciência accepts submissions of original and unpublished articles in Portuguese, English, or Spanish; however, accepted articles must be translated into English, and authors must submit a certificate of review.

The article must not identify the authors; this identification should only be on the identification page.

Title in English: Centered, Font Family: Times New Roman, Font size: 16 pt.

Title in Portuguese: Centered, Font Family: Times New Roman, Font size: 14 pt, italic.

Abstract in English (200–250 words)

Keywords: Provide a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5, separated by periods.

Resumo (200–250 words)

Palavras-chaves: Forneça no mínimo 3 e no máximo 5 palavras-chave, separadas por ponto.

INTRODUCTION

This should contain justification, theoretical basis and objectives. The justification should clearly define the problem, highlighting its importance, gaps in knowledge, and the theoretical framework used when applicable.

MATERIAL AND METHOD

Include the method used, the period and place where the research was carried out, the population/sample, inclusion and exclusion criteria, data collection sources and instruments, and the data analysis method.

For research involving human or animal beings, the authors must explain that ethical principles have been observed, by the legislation of the country of origin and inform the number of the approval opinion by the Research Ethics Committee by current legislation.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Information limited to the results of the research. Complement the information contained in the illustrations presented and should not repeat the data. Presentation of relevant aspects and interpretation of the data obtained. Relation and discussion with research results, implications, and limitations of the study. Data included in the results should not be re-presented.

CONCLUSIONS OR FINAL CONSIDERATIONS

Conclusion (for quantitative research) and Final Considerations (for qualitative research).

Highlight the most important findings and comment on contributions to the field. Based on the objectives, results, and discussion, and avoiding statements unrelated to the study and/or new interpretations, include the contributions made by the study.

FINANCING

This section should be used to acknowledge funding agencies or organizations that contributed in any way to this study. It should not be used to thank individuals or authors who participated in the research. Acknowledgments, financial or technical support, declaration of financial conflict of interest and/or affiliations: It is the responsibility of the authors to provide information and authorization regarding the items mentioned above. Cite the number of the public notice to which the research is linked. Due to CAPES Ordinance 206, of September 4, 2018, which stipulates that CAPES must be cited, we ask all authors to state that they have received research grants in all articles submitted. As of this date, authors must refer to the support received because of activities funded by CAPES, in full or in part.

REFERENCES

Citations must follow ABNT NBR 10520:2023 (Author-Date System). Examples:

  • One author: Yales (2024) described... or (Yales, 2024)
  • Two authors: Moraes and Silva (1988) observed... or (Moraes; Silva, 1988)
  • Three authors: Grilli, Tabellini, and Malinvauld (1991) found...or (Grilli; Tabellini; Malinvauld, 1991)
  • Four or more authors: Barcellos et al. (1977) found....or (Barcellos et al., 1977).

References

[Following ABNT NBR 10520:2023. Must contain all necessary details for identifying the sources, arranged alphabetically without numbering. References must be drawn up in single space, aligned to the left margin of the text and separated from each other by a single-spaced blank line. If multiple works by the same author are published in the same year, a letter should be added to differentiate them (e.g., 1999a; 1999b). All cited works must appear in the reference list.
